This project's goal was to bring inanimate objects to life.
I collaborated with a screenwriter, Elia Murialdo, and together we decided to take inspiration from a Pixar short called "Luxo Jr.", but with an horror spin to it. From there he wrote all the screenplay.
The story is about a Small Lamp. As he is relaxing on his desk, a ball disturbs his peace. At first he doesn't want anything to do with it, but then curiosity gets the best of the poor lamp and when he decides to go check out the darkness, he meets his tragic fate.
Below is the final product.
Both lamps' character designs are inspired by Tim Burton's Beetlejuice: the one on Small Lamp is more subtle, while the Monster Lamp's design is a tribute to the Sandworm's head.
Everything in the video was modeled, rigged and animated in Maya, textured in Substance Painter and rendered in Maya with Arnold. The video editing and addition of sounds were made in Premiere Pro.
