"A mix between a jackrabbit and a pigmy deer, this creature inhabits the Old West. It’s vicious when attacked and mimics human voices to lure people into the wilderness, who get lost and, eventually, die."

Close-up
This project consisted in creating a mythical creature with a twist.
As a fan of both old American tales and sphinx cats, I took inspiration from the myth of the Jackalope and made it hairless. This creature lives in the deep of the Louisiana wetlands and hunts at night, so its eyes are blank to maximize its night vision. Mushrooms grow on its back because of the high humidity levels of its habitat.
The sculpture was made entirely in Zbrush, from the blockout stage to the detailing. Texturing, lighting and rendering were done in Substance Painter.
This is a high poly version and was not retopologized, as the final product required was a still render of its total body (on the right) and a few still detail renders (below).
